POLLUTION ALERT

A study of the European Center Environment and Health of the World Health Assembly, highlights the impact on the health of citizens of high concentrations of pollutants in air of our cities, including the deaths, hospital admissions and illness attributable to the average concentrations of PM10 (respirable fraction of dust which, thanks to the small diameter can reach the deepest airways, bringing with it many other highly polluting substances. 

The impact of PM10 pollution on the health of residents, estimated in major Italian cities, showed that the population of over thirty years, 4.7% of all deaths can be attributed to PM10 in excess of 30 micrograms (0.03 milligrams) per cubic meter. 

Also occur every year, thousands of hospital admissions for respiratory and cardiovascular causes, as well as tens of thousands of cases of acute bronchitis and asthma among children under fifteen years, which could be avoided by reducing the average concentrations of PM10 in in the air. 

A substantial number of deaths, hospital admissions and respiratory disorders, especially in children, are attributable to air pollution and urban, in the order of magnitude of thousands or tens of thousands of cases per year. 

It is now clear that thousands of Italian citizens of all ages who live in big cities get sick and die as a result of urban pollution that sum and multiply the effects of other risk factors for health.
